Acqualagna (PU) Marche

Acqualagna has an interesting history. Near the current town is what used to be a Roman town, Pitinum Mergens, which was destroyed by Alarico: the local people who survived founded the castle of Montefalcone which, in the late Medieval period, gave form to the current town. During the Medieval Period, it was governed by the Montefeltros, lords of Urbino. But Acqualagna is not just a historical town: The “Truffle Capital” of Italy, it is well-known for this precious food, which is celebrated throughout the year through various events: not to be missed is the National Truffle Fair, which is held every year in October and November.
