Anzio is the town where Nero was born, and there are many structures that bear testimony to its glorious past, including the Imperial Villa and Neronian port. But Anzio is first and foremost the town where American troops landed on 22 January 1944. A town of history, yes, but a town of the sea as well. Anzio is a port that is still very active to this day, and here you can find fishermen with their nets, docked boats, and the catch of the day being unloaded to go to not only local markets, but the city of Rome too. Here, where Fellini filmed part of Amarcord, the atmosphere is full of voices and references to the sea, this archaic element which provides an enchanting spectacle at dawn, reflecting the lights of the town.
