Belforte all'Isauro

Belforte all'Isauro (PU) Marche

Land of honey and truffles, Belforte all’Isauro lies on a rocky mountain in the Upper Foglia Valley, on the border with Tuscany. A symbol of the past and its events is the castle, which was built during the High Medieval Period on a previous Lombard settlement, and defended the area for centuries. Parts of the castle were rebuilt on several occasions, but it took on its definitive appearance thanks to architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini, who rebuilt it on the order of Duke Federico of Montefeltro. But the castle’s history doesn’t finish there: in 1874, a Prussian baron bought it, certain that it once belonged to his ancestors, and donated it to the Municipality of Belforte.
