Bugnara resides at approximately 600 meters above sea level, against the base of the Rotondo Hills, where, surrounded by hills and woods, it looks out upon the Peligna Valley. Bugnara is an ancient town that grew up mainly in medieval times and has been home to a series of noble families who have left a priceless architectural heritage. A symbol of this rich past is Castello Ducale, whose ruins predominate over the area. A walk through the elegant old town reveals the remains of megalithic walls and fortifications, the church of St. Maria della Neve, the church of St. Maria degli Angeli, the Palazzo dei Papi, the Palazzo del barone Alesi dei Paparelli and the Church of the Madonna del Santissimo Rosario.
