It is perhaps in Autumn that the countryside around Candelo is at its most beautiful, when the trees take on their warm colors that fade from red to brown, the light becomes softer and exploring the countryside on foot, mountain bike or horseback becomes almost magical. Arriving in the town, the first thing that strikes you is the Ricetto fortress, the symbol of the town, which has hardly changed over the centuries. Built in a position that made it impregnable, the fortress was used in times of peace as a storehouse. When the town was under attack it became a refuge for the inhabitants, who shut themselves in with their livestock. Nowadays a flower festival is held here every year in spring, filling the ancient streets with color and perfume.
