Cannole (LE) Puglia

This village in the hinterland to Otranto is located near the Protected Oasis of the Alimini Lakes. The history and heritage of Cannole is recounted by its architecture and some interesting treasures outside the village. An example is the Church with its baroque altars and the Granafei Castle, dating back to 1400, with its verdant gardens. Outside the village, the traditional farmhouses, called masserie, show the history and the soul of this territory. One example are the fortified buildings of Masseria Torcito: the tower is the most ancient element, the most recent are the underground olive mill, the wells and the granary pits. This masseria shows its historical heritage though its typical products, such as olives and snails, called “municheddhe”, that are at the heart of the local cuisine.
