Capurso

Capurso (BA) Puglia

Capurso is a small medieval town, but its history dates back before the Middle Ages. Actually, the first human settlements in this area are extremely ancient, as shown by the frescos found in the cave called Grotta di Santa Barbara. The historic centre hosts beautiful churches, such as the Monastery of St. Francis, the Basilica of St. Mary of the Well and the Chapel of the Well. ST. Mary of the Well started to be worshipped here in 1705 and is now worshiped in the whole world. Every year, in August, the town hosts a religious celebration dedicated to St. Mary that attracts believers and peregrines from all over the country. On this occasion, emigrants come back to Capurso to celebrate with their families.
