Castelfranco Piandiscò

Castelfranco Piandiscò (AR) Toscana

Castelfranco Piandiscò is a newly formed municipality, having been created a few years ago by the fusion of Castelfranco di Sopra and Pian di Scò. In order to discover the beautiful heart of the area, head to the capital, Castelfranco di Sopra, via the ancient Strada dei Setteponti, along which you can admire Romanesque churches, farmhouses, towers and tiny collections of houses before you arrive in the heart of the town, in search of the two Madonnas: one by Andrea del Sarto, the other by Maestro del Cassone Adimari (also known as the Scheggia). The hamlet is surrounded by a unique, beautiful landscape formed of cliffs created by centuries of erosion and splashes of green. Such is the appeal of the countryside here that it is known as the “land of the sirens”, with its gorgeous collection of color and shape said to have inspired the backgrounds of work by Leonardo da Vinci.
