Castelnuovo is situated in a land of history and natural beauty. On one side of the village are hills festooned with Chianti Senese vines, while on the other is the lands of the Berardenga, which take their name from the nobleman Berardo, who lived in the 10th century. The past is everywhere you look in the village: under the imposing shadow of the ancient castle, of which only the ruins remain today, the place is like a treasure trove waiting to be discovered, perhaps from the saddle of a bicycle. The narrow, white-stone streets, churches, tiny neighborhoods, farms and country houses all have a story to tell. As you explore, you get the feeling that time has stood still just long enough for you to be transported away by your imagination.
