A small town in the Marsica region of Abruzzo, Cerchio has its roots in ancient times and a history linked to legend. It is said that the first houses here were built around a theatre constructed by the Romans to celebrate the coronation of the Emperor Claudius after he ordered the draining of the Fucine Lake in 51 A.D. The surrounding countryside spreads, green and fertile, into the distance, until it meets the horizon. Not to be missed is the Museo Civico (Municipal Museum), which holds local historical records and houses exhibits relating to rural life and crafts, religious art and ethnography, in a physical and moving representation of this region and its people.
