Traveling through the province of Asti, you’d be hard pressed to find a better preserved and restored old town than that of Cocconato, a welcoming town with elegant architecture. The small cafes, restaurants and shops that sell local produce enliven the town and lead you, step by step, to the parish church dedicated to Santa Maria della Consolazione. From here a breathtaking view unfolds, revealing first the town and then the open countryside of the surrounding hills. A program of events makes the town even more appealing. Not to be missed is "Cocco Wine," a food-and-wine show that takes place in September, offering tastings and events focused on local wines and produce, and the traditional "Palio dei Somari (donkey palio)," when Cocconato is transformed into the ancient town of centuries past.
