Collalto Sabino

Collalto Sabino (RI) Lazio

On a “colle alto” (lit.’tall hill’), a strategic point of defense, sits the town of Collalto Sabino, where the past lives on and the appearance of the place has remained relatively unchanged over time. The heart of the town is Baronale Castle, which has maintained its 17th-18th-century appearance and is made up of one central square tower, two round corner towers, watchtowers and bastions. Here, between the vast park and the ancient well, sits the fortified tower, which affords an extensive and magnificent view, from the Gran Sasso all the way to the Maiella. The best time of day for taking in this view is dusk, when all the little towns in the surrounding area light up, creating a magical effect.
