Gangi (PA) Sicilia

Gangi is a treasure trove of history and culture. Local legend attributes its origins to the mythical city of Engyon, founded by the Cretans at a site near to a water source bearing the same name. Close to the town you can visit the Holy Spirit Sanctuary, which is also associated with a legend: it is said that a farmer found a miraculous effigy of the Holy Father painted on a boulder, which is now kept in an alcove in the building. Back in the town center with its tiny streets and timeless atmosphere, you'll admire the Ventimiglia Tower before reaching the town's crowning castle, with a tower that symbolizes the area's medieval past. You can also visit two palaces: the elegant Bongiorno Palace and the Sgadari Palace, where various museums are now housed.
