Town of art and culture, Lucera is located on three hills in an area of vineyards and dominates the plain Tavoliere delle Puglie. The town is surrounded by the ancient walls that protect the ancient heart of the village, with its elegant buildings and Renaissance churches. The most representative building of Lucera is the Swabian Fortress, rich in mysteries that are still unresolved. The palace within the fortress did not have any entrance, to enter or leave the palace people used hidden underground passageways, many of which are still to be discovered. The balance once was the seat of the State’s mint and, according to the legends, it was also the hiding place of the harem of Frederick the Great. Reality and myth come together in this unique place and can be discovered walking in the streets of the town and listening to its endless stories.
