Tonara

Tonara (NU) Sardegna

At the center of Sardinia, at the foot of Monte Mungianeddu, lies the tiny village of Tonara, which grew from three ancient districts, Arasulè, Teliseri and Toneri, with the name coming from the latter and referring to the limestone towers dotted through the local area. Time seems to stand still in the lanes of Tonara. Wander through the streets and fall under the spell of the beautiful stone houses and brightly colored flowers, which adorn balconies and windows in spring and summer. The inhabitants of this traditional village have always woven magnificent rugs and tapestries and made carvings from the surrounding woodlands, creating a rare and beautiful artistic heritage. Torrone (sweet nougat) is a key local delicacy, which enjoys its own festival every year
