Volturara Appula

Volturara Appula (FG) Puglia

The historic centre of this small mountain village has beautiful architectural treasures, such as the Cathedral of the 13th century, with the unique polychrome altar and the paintings of St. Peter and St. Paul, the bell tower and the Duke’s Palace of the 16th century. The true spirit of the village however is to be found in its surrounding nature and in the traditional tastes of its cuisine. In October, there is the traditional Eel Festival of St. Luke, originally created in the 13th century by Frederick II who was said to love eel.
